The house of Montreal in Canada has just lost, through the death of Father François Ciquard, one of its oldest members. He died at Montreal last September 29th.* He was French by birth, had first worked in French seminaries, and had been sent twice to Canada. Since 1792, the year of his second journey, he worked with untiring zeal for the conversion of the Indians whom he followed in their wanderings and with whom he ate their rough food.  It was in this harsh existence that he used up his strength.  No longer being able to serve his beloved Indians, he came to take some relief in the Seminary of Montreal.  There he had an attack of paralysis that took him off from the Society.  I commend him to the prayers of your seminary and to the remembrances usual in such a case.

I am, etc.

Duclaux
