George Walter was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on November 11, 1907. His elementary schooling, from 1913 to 1922, was in St. Peter’s Parochial School in Fairmont. In 1922 he came to St. Charles College in Catonsville, Maryland. He graduated in 1928. From St. Charles, he went to St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland, for his Philosophy. He remained at the old Paca Street seminary for his first year of Theology. In 1930 he received his B.A. For the rest of his Theology course he went on to the new St. Mary’s Seminary at Roland Park in 1931. There he obtained his S.T.B. in 1933. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Wheeling on May 26, 1934.

In September of that year, Father Walter returned to Catonsville for Solitude. He completed his Solitude in 1935. The next year, 1935-1936, he taught at St. Charles College. In the fall of 1936, he was assigned to The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. for higher studies. After one semester there he resigned from the Society of St. Sulpice and returned to his home diocese, Wheeling. Father Walter died on September 9, 1970.
