Alexis Jules Orban was born on November 22, 1850, in the Diocese of Reims. Ordained to the priesthood in 1876, he was, after Solitude, assigned to Montreal in 1879. From 1890 to 1896 he served as the first librarian of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. From 1894 to 1896 he was also Spiritual Director of the Divinity College of the University and Assistant to the President of the Divinity College.

After 1898 he taught at Issy. Upon retirement in 1908 he took up residence in Frascati whose bishop was Cardinal Satolli. The cardinal had been the first Apostolic Delegate to the United States. Father Orban had evidently established a friendship with the Apostolic Delegate in their years in Washington. Father Orban died on March 8, 1915.
