Since 1791, the Sulpicians in the United States have helped to educate, guide and support priests and future priests…and now they need your help.

Many alums, friends and benefactors ask about giving opportunities to the Society of St. Sulpice, Province of the U.S.  If you are interested in making a gift, the following may be helpful to you.

Retirement

Sulpician priests devote their lives to the education and formation of priests and future priests. Through their time and service, they have invested in the future of the Church. Now, it’s time to give back to them. Your generous donation helps us cover costs of the 21 retired Sulpician priests for whom the Society provides retirement benefits, including room, board and nursing care.

Missions and Seminaries in Africa

In addition to the mission and seminary in Zambia, the Sulpicians also have taken responsibility for St. Anthony’s Seminary in Kachebere, Malawi.

While young men there have strong faith and a deep desire to become priests, the road to becoming a priest there is difficult. As residents of one of the poorest countries in Africa, young men often arrive at the seminary with only one shirt and one pair of shoes. Through your generous donation, we can provide clothing, furniture, bedding and kitchen equipment needed to care for these young men of faith.

Give to Education

Though a Sulpician in graduate studies lives modestly, the costs of tuition, books, and lodging total $60,000 per year. Donations from benefactors like you allow will allow him to finish his advanced degrees so he can better serve in our seminaries.

Help St. Mary’s Spiritual Center and Historic Site

Located at 600 North Paca Street in Baltimore, St. Mary’s Spiritual Center & Historic Site is home to two historic buildings in addition to the Spiritual Center:
...

• The historic Seminary Chapel. Designed by the renowned French architect Maximilian Godefroy and completed in 1808, the Chapel is the only remaining structure standing from the first Roman Catholic Seminary established in the United States.
  ...
• The Mother Seton House, home for a time to the first U.S.-born canonized saint, Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, who arrived at the Paca Street home the day of the dedication of the Seminary Chapel in 1808 and lived there along with her three daughters for a year.

Many Ways of Giving

Bequests

More alumni and friends are remembering the Sulpicians in a personal and enduring way by naming the Society as a beneficiary in their wills.  A will allows you to make a more substantial contribution than might otherwise be possible, while at the same time permitting the most flexible use of available resources during your lifetime.  The following are some specific ways to include the Sulpicians in your will.

• The most flexible way to make such a gift is to leave a percentage of your estate. By leaving 20% for example, the gift automatically changes with the size of your estate.

Consider this sample language:
I give and devise to the Associated Sulpicians of the U.S., located in Baltimore, MD, all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).

• With any type of bequest the key is planning ahead. You will need to enlist the help of an attorney to draw up a valid will.
